Food for thought: Fashion for the sake of Fashion

To be fashionable today is to be clad in Manning Cartell vintage harem pants, a print T-shirt, a Proenza Schouler blazer (with footballer shoulders), and a Juan Carlos Obando rubber armband to accessorise.
I just don’t get it.
You would have had to pay 4 months’ salaries to afford the outfit and for people who aren’t keeping up with the latest trends, it looks absolutely ugly.
Is this just a case of Fashion for the sake of Fashion; Kate Moss wore it with a Turban, and so shall I? If it is, you are not Kate Moss and you are not arm-in-arm with Karl Lagerfeld every night being watched by the world. Why emulate someone you’re not?
Don’t get me wrong, I have nothing against expensive clothes. I just have a pet hate for those that make you look terrible. Where was your mum when you were trying on that leopard-print leotard?
Let’s talk about compromise. I’ll wear gladiator sandals if you trash the rubber armband. Let’s face it, we’re vain creatures, so why not wear expensive rags and look good too?
